Happy Thanksgiving All!

We'll be celebrating today with my parents, my brother and my husband's brother. Six adults, two kids, a mutt and a husky. Naturally the bird will be enormous, the side dishes will be plentiful, and as far as I know there will be three different pies. You wish you could try the one I baked last night -- Chocolate Pecan Pie. I'll let you know how it comes out. As much as I haven't always enjoyed Thanksgiving in the past, I'm determined to enjoy it this year. Partly because I want to appreciate my family, and partly because I think I need to just get over myself and my distaste for this holiday. One way that I'm adjusting is by throwing some recipes into the mix that I enjoy a bit more, like turning the plain mashed potatoes into cream cheese mashed potatoes. And the pie recipe is from Paula Deen, so you know good things are coming.

I appreciate my mom's point of view on the meal more this year. For her, the memories of growing up without a lot of money made the giant meals at the holidays more special, because it was one time when there was too much food rather than the alternative. These days, even though we don't have a lack of food problem, it's still a comfort to her to serve a big abundant meal to her family. I can completely understand that, and I think it's a nice way of looking at things. Plus, nobody has to cook for about four days after, thanks to the leftovers. Woohoo!

We're including Hubby's brother in the mix this year after he lost his wife in August. I couldn't bear to think of him being alone or without family, so we didn't hesitate to invite him over, and he didn't hesitate to say no. He and my husband look and sound the most alike of all the brothers, so I've always felt completely at ease with him, since the day we met. We've always gotten along just fine, and I'm glad he'll be with us, as is the rest of the family. Pictures to come...

Have a joyful and happy Thanksgiving with your loved ones. Whatever you do, enjoy some time of thanks and counting of blessings -- we all have them, no matter how simple or small they may be. One of mine is that I'm not in charge of the turkey!

God bless!!

Happy Thanksgiving! My hubby doesn't care for this holiday either. Mostly because he doesn't like crowds. I love it, though:) And I'm very thankful that I'm not in charge of the turkey, too!

Okay, I didn't even finish reading your post - we have been doing chocolate pecan pie for years! It's so good - and this year it's the only pie we'll have - we are 4 adults, 1 child, and 4 dogs :-)
