Friday Fragments

Filters!

My company has installed a very good web filter at work in an attempt to keep people away from dangerous sites or from wasting time on You Tube, etc. I didn't have a problem with it until last week, when it decided to block my BLOG. Waaahh!! Granted, I might have possibly spent a few more minutes per day reading or writing blogs than I probably should have, but I also don't take breaks like all of our smokers do 10x per day, and I rarely take anywhere near an hour for lunch, so I didn't feel too badly about it. I guess this solves THAT little guilt problem. I guess it's back to late night and early morning posts for me!

Admin Day

Did you hug your Administrative Professional on Wednesday? I feel very lucky to have been appreciated by all of my bosses in many different ways. Two teamed up on flowers and a gift card for me. Two others took me out to a very nice lunch at a favorite Japanese restaurant. And the favorite last gave me a fantastic card with a little monetary gift to go with it. I'm thinking we should consider making this a monthly celebration! Especially now that I've decided not to blog at work anymore. I truly am an outstanding employee, aren't I?

Open House

Tonight was Open House at the kids' school. The classroom parts of the evening went very well. Noelle was so proud to show me everything in her room, and her teacher even created a checklist for us to follow to make sure we did everything there was to do. Included on the list was to say hello to the teacher -- I love it! We checked off every last thing and then moved on to my son's classroom. It's incredible to see all the things they've worked on this year, and I'm so impressed with how clean both classrooms were. At our last school, the classrooms were a tad...scary. I think an organized classroom is a good sign.

They also had a book fair, at which Charlie was dying to buy something called "Diary of a Wimpy Kid." Is that right? He hasn't left his room all evening because he's reading it cover to cover. Hopefully I didn't just purchase a book that's teaching him how to make my life harder. ;)

Movies

I'm watching "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" right now, and feeling happy that I never paid actual money for this. It's just good background noise whilst I blog and clean my bathroom.

Books

I'm in the middle of two right now. On CD I'm listening to "Daughter of Fortune," which is such an interesting story. I'm on the last 3 cd's now, and I'm dying to know what happens to the heroine, Eliza, during her trek through the 1850's California gold rush.

On actual pages I'm reading this.

The writer is hilarious, taking a very personal account of her history and making it laughably funny. It's also a very insightful peek into the world of the average JW family. I have a JW friend that I used to work with, who I can't help but think of as things come up in the book that I sometimes hear from her. Different walks of life certainly are...different!

Happy Friday people!

Which classrooms were you talking about because I'm not quite sure that's a fair statement. I totally get this is your blog and your opinions and believe me, I do respect that, but I really don't think that's a fair statement... sorry :(

My boy has read all 3 of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books - haven't read them myself, but so far no bad habits have turned up as a result of his reading them ;-)

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid is on my desk at school right now; it's our next read-aloud.

As for the filter at work, you can try getting into your blog via Google. You might not be able to write, but you could at least see comments.

Thanks for joining FF this week! :)

I worked with a JW who got me in trouble for wishing her a Happy Thanksgiving. I thought it was an American Holiday. I had no idea there was any sort of religious connotation to it. I was happy to comply.
