Adventures at Target

We needed a trip to Target yesterday after my son's Transformers backpack decided to bite the dust after a year of use. Whenever possible in our family, we use everything until it dies. When the liner inside tears, it's not dead yet. But when the zippers won't even close anymore, we pronounce it, and take steps to move on.

Once we hit the backpack aisle, things hit an interesting turn. My son, surprisingly, did not like any of the traditional over-the-shoulder packs that they had to offer. He said no to another Transformers, couldn't get on board with the black and white camo, and nearly spit upon the image of Spider Man. After much discussion and debate, a compromise was reached that I find amusing, because he set his sights on this:

It comes with a water bottle, a "utility pouch" and...well...let's be honest. It's a suitcase. It was near the backpacks, but it wasn't one of them. Still, it was love at first sight, and he couldn't be happier. And as he pointed out, "Mom, I can use it for school AND for going to Gramma's house!" Score. Frankly, I can't argue with the roller case -- back in Jr. High they used to find us girls with curved spines, thanks to the gigantic bags we heaved around.

A little more shopping found us in the Halloween aisle, and my boy was happy to find the last one of these:

As an Indiana Jones fan, I can't tell you how happy I am that this was his choice. No super heroes or monsters for him -- it's all about being the too cool for school archaeologist. Yeah! I only wish I could put it together for him myself. After all, a shirt I'd buy for him wouldn't have drawn on buttons and pockets. But at this point I'm just happy to be done with the worry of it all.

By the way, thanks to everyone for their input on my daughter's costume. I am going to let her go with the bunny suit, though I think I'm leaving the fuzzy bow tie out of the mix. I'm not looking for her to be a bunny cocktail waitress...just a bunny.

My Boy is also going to be Indy...which leads me to having to get you the Halloween party invite!

Got both kids rolling backpacks this year as their old ones weighed as much as they did, especially DQ's!

I wish I had read this post sooner...I was at Penneys today and they had backpacks super cheap! Although they might have been too little for your guy. Anyway, it is very cute around here! LOVE the new header!

What a smart boy he is to use the dual purpose argument...Use it for school and going to Grandmas!! Love it!

My daughter is going to be a pink cobra again this year. She insisted on it last year as her fascination with snakes began. I searched and searched and could NOT find a snake costume. SO, I had to make it. I'm happy she wants to wear it again because I worked so hard on it!

ps Thanks for the mineral makeup advice. Based on my research, it appears that Bare Minerals is the most popular.
