Book on CD Review

This week's book on CD was "Water for Elephants."

I started it, not really knowing what it was about, but my office supply guy insisted that it was the first one I should listen to. (After he brought me a box of 8 books on CD! Alright, Office Supply Guy!) It started out a little depressing, with this old old man telling the story of his current life in a nursing home, but it picks up when suddenly you're whirled back in time to the early 1930's and he's a young man telling you the beginning of his story. I was captivated within the first few hours (11.5 total) and couldn't wait to drive every day and have another hour to listen. By the end, just like with "The Glass Castle," I didn't want it to end. Thankfully, I loved the ending, which was a feel good one if I do say so myself.

Next up is "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao," by Junot Diaz.

I'm loving these books to listen to. It makes that long drive in so much better, and it's actually fun to hear the variations of voices that the readers use, making each character unique. Now THAT has got to be a cool job to have.

On Bob's treks to Hollister he listens to Old Radio Shows on CD - they're super funny, and even Matthew likes them!

My hubby, Chris, has a job that requires him to be in the car for most of the day, every day, up to 10 hours sometimes. He LIVES on audio books. I can't believe how many he checks out from the library sometimes! I am adding this book to my hold list soon.

We used to listen to audio books of children's chapter books in my elementary school art class. My teacher would always let us vote on what to listen to next and I loved it!! Thanks for bringing the memory back...it made me smile :)
Have a Merry Christmas!!

Love, Mere
