To tell the truth, I was totally on to him. We'd been discussing the topic
It was Easter Sunday, and we were up north visiting both of our parents, who lived in the same town. (Crazy coincidence!) Before going to brunch at his brother's house, Rick wanted to take me to the Biblical Gardens that I had never before realized existed. It's a beautiful place that takes you for a walk all around and over a rushing creek, while touching on the life of Christ from beginning to end. There's one bridge that you walk across, and the Beatitudes are posted all along the cliff to the right. It's a very serene place.
At the top of an overlook above the creek, Rick suddenly became a bit nervous. Since this is not a man who appears anything even close to nervous most of the time, I became suspicious. We were hugging and enjoying the view, and he kept looking at me as though he was about to say...something...and then would talk himself out of it. At one point he actually took my hand and started to leave the spot, but I wasn't about to miss this opportunity, so I pulled him back and made him stay a little longer.
Did anyone else ever have to force a proposal this way? I rather doubt it.
Finally, he took my hands, and looked braver than he had all morning. He looked me in the eyes and said, "I couldn't have picked a better place or time to do this. I want you to be my wife. Will you marry me?"
This is where I said "Yes" and we hugged it out.
Ten years later, despite all the difficulties we've endured, I'm glad at this moment that I said yes. And just think, if I hadn't pulled him back, who knows when I'd be writing this post!

Awwwww, what a nice story :-) I actually was never proposed to by my hubby - we (um, well, I) just sort of decided it was time. Guess I'm kinda pushy huh?!
What a romantic story! Where are the Biblical Gardens? Never heard of them...
I am inspired to tell our engagement story too... I only have to wait 20 days and then I will post it. How long were you engaged? When did you guys get married? Enquiring minds want to know!

Great story! I always wondered about those stories where the proposal was a surprise--marriage is kind of a big deal! My hubby and I also discussed the topic to death too!
What a sweet story! My husband I celebrated 8 years last week and I still love to retell our engagement story as well.
