Emotional Napsack

Today was INSANE.

I think I hit nearly every emotion there is to have. Shall I walk you through it?

Nervousness
Charlie was in the 2nd grade spelling bee at his school this morning. There were about 20 kids, and I really wondered if he'd go through with participating. We practiced a bit in advance, and I talked up how we would celebrate his participation, whether he won or not. All that mattered was that he would try! I was thrilled when he went right up at his turn and joined in. And I could NOT have been more nervous! YIKES is it excruciating waiting for a seven year old to spell a word.

The first one was "down." He nailed it.
The second word was "between." Shazam!
The third word was "importent." That's right, I said importent! Isn't that how you spell it? Oh.

So he made it to round three, and when I saw the heartbroken look on his face, I felt such utter disappointment for him, knowing he was beating himself up. He perked up after some hugs and a promise of the celebratory Bakugan and strawberry shortcake that evening.

Joy
From the spelling bee I drove to meet some of my girlfriends at the new coffee house in town that literally opened today. Watching four people work together to make my raspberry mocha was pretty funny. We gals sat and gabbed and enjoyed one another's company, until I got the phone call.

Overwhelming Anger
We found out that our next door neighbor had submitted a claim to his insurance company for an issue with our tree. His insurance company wants restitution. From us. Needless to say, I didn't take the news well at first, and might have thrown gently tossed my cell phone down. I might have lost it for a minute, but the girls swooped in with hugs and reassurances. They also reminded me that my insurance company should cover anything, and that's when the light clicked on. Riiight...insurance. Thanks girls!

Relief
Talked to my insurance company -- it's pretty much a done deal and we won't have to do a thing. Now we just have to talk to the neighbor about solving the problem together.

Frustration
A house that we have for sale up north finally FINALLY had some offers on it yesterday, but after a conversation with the realtor, it doesn't appear that either is terribly realistic or not risky. Now to wait out the weekend to see if any other offers come in that are better. I hate countering.

Happiness
Rick flew back in to California today, and I was so happy to see him! I also didn't even realize that I had missed his smell until I caught the scent of his cologne. Yummy. I'm glad he's home and I'm looking forward to getting back to some sort of regular life.

Fear
Driving back into town we had to pick up our boy, who was at his friend's baseball practice, waiting for us. It was funny to see so many of our friends all in one place, and funnier still to realize that all of these people we know all know each other, too! Small world! Small town. I kept having to go back and forth to get the kid and then get his backpack, and when we finally made it back to the car, Charlie was nowhere to be found. Sure enough, just as I was starting to hit that panic spot, where you realize that someone could have grabbed him in just the amount of time it took you to walk back to the car, Rick showed me that he'd found him and he was fine. *whew* I hate that feeling.

Tired
I'm just tired and I'm going to bed. Sleep tight!

What a crazy day! I'm glad you found Charlie. I was in a spelling bee in the sixth grade. I misspelled the word "patio". Shameful isn't it? I spelled it "padio". Duh!
