And We're Back!

It’s been one of those mornings.

You know those mornings, don’t you?

The dynamic in our house changed today, as Rick flew out to Florida this morning to help his mom and step-dad make the trek from there to Wisconsin, as they do twice a year. This means I had to get the kids up and out the door by 6:45am *ack*, drop them off at my friend/sitter’s house, and stop at Safeway on the way to work to pick up breakfast for the 8:15 meeting.

This is all doable…conceivable…POSSIBLE until you throw in a few new circumstances.

Like when Charlie decided he wasn’t going to actually go IN to my friend’s house. He got out of the car and stalked off saying, “Bye!” Uh, no, I need you to actually go into the house so that I can get myself on the road and not have to drive 85 mph to get there in time!

I’d like to say I hugged and cuddled him into the house with all the patience and love of a perfect mother. I’d sure like to. Instead it was more like “Get in here now if you ever want to play Pikman again!!” That always seems to get his attention. Thankfully, Noelle chose this to be one of her mornings where she does the exact opposite of Charlie just to show that she can. God bless her. Hopefully their morning got better after I drove off like a bat out of hell.

Naturally, there was yet another accident on the freeway – the 3rd in three days! By the time I got breakfast, eeked my way through the traffic and got into the office, it was 8:25. Fine -- whatever. They still ate the food and that’s what counts, right? I don’t have to be the perfect assistant ALL of the time, RIGHT??

The cherry on the icing of the cake of my day is that I have this mysterious lump inside the left side of my tongue. I think it’s just a swollen or infected gland, but the pain and swelling involved is miserable. By last night I couldn’t even read to the kids, it had gotten so bad. And this morning I sound like Sylvester the cat. If you see me in person today, be sure and stand back a little.

I may spthit!

P.S. My parents made it home this last weekend, but they weren’t too happy about the outcome of their vacation. The cruise line offered 50% off on their next trip of the same value, but they think they’re done with cruising for a while.

Sorry, but I had to chuckle at the Sylvester the Cat comment :-) Sorry to hear that it's painful - I've had stuff like that, no fun! Hope the trip goes well for Rick, and that you survive at home as well!

That sounds so hectic! And ouch about your tongue!
