New Years Eve

I love our New Years Eve tradition.  Growing up, we didn't have one.  We spent it wherever we spent it, and my best memories come from celebrating with friends.  Once I was at my friend Kim's house down the street, and was rather surprised that her parents didn't even stay up until midnight.  I was rather disappointed.  At least at our house we all stayed up, threw some confetti and hugged when the ball dropped.

Through high school I spent most of them with my best friends, a group of four guys from my drama crowd.  Once we were in Bear Valley at my boyfriend's family cabin.  Once we were at my house with my grandmother, who couldn't get off the couch because she was only wearing a shirt and didn't want the boys to know she was in her underwear.  (Sorry Gramma.)  She was happy to celebrate with us, though!

Our new tradition rocks.  Since ringing in 2001, my best friends Mark and Lisa, whom I've known since high school, have been celebrating every new year with us.  (Mark happens to be one of the four guys in my drama crowd -- ha!)  Here's us back then:

He met Lisa and we all just...clicked!  We attended the senior ball together, Lisa with Mark and me with my high school beau.  This is my favorite picture from that evening.

After their graduation we spent the best summer together, practically inseperable for three months.  We went to movies, the beach, explored new places and of course enjoyed plenty of date nights.  It was one of those perfect summers before you have to be a grown up, but you have more privelages than a kid.  Looking back, it was one of the happiest of my life.

These days my former beau is married to another nice lady, but Mark and Lisa got married in 2004 with me by their side.  We all have kids now, but theirs is the littlest at 19 months, so we're celebrating at their house this year.  It's going to be a fun/friend/food/Wii fest with possibly a movie thrown in somewhere.  Who knows -- every year is different!  The one thing that remains the same is that we always have a fanTAStic time.

Happy New Year to you and yours!!
