Friday Fragments!

Thanks to Half-Past Kissin’ Time for the inspiration today!

Schools out! The kids are officially on summer break as of today. As they like to tell me, “Mom, we don’t have to go to school for two months, but you have to go to work for like 12,000 more days!” Thanks sweethearts. I needed to hear that.

By the way, that works out to be over 32 years. I have a ways to go.

My work life has had its ups and downs. An up would be a fantastic lunch out with my favorite boss on Thursday – it’s so nice to feel appreciated! A down would be being snapped at several times by another boss. I’m going with the forgiving tone of “he’s under a lot of pressure right now” and putting my best foot forward. This attitude comes with the help of afore mentioned favorite boss.

Last weekend we got to enjoy a family gathering at my cousin’s house near Santa Cruz. She happens to be one of my favorite cousins, so she could host a house cleaning and I’d show up with mop in hand. They were wonderful enough to heat their pool in advance, so my kids swam for 4.2 of the 5 hours we were there, emerging from the water only to eat and then jump back in. I took advantage of their being busy to enjoy catching up with some other family that I hadn’t seen in a while. One unfortunate bit of news was that a beloved older cousin from my grandmother’s generation just discovered she has cancer. This just kills me because I adore her and her husband, and can’t imagine losing either of them. I’m going to do everything I can to see more of them than usual in the coming weeks and months.

On a happier note, I am still trying to decide how to spend my $150 gift cards from Macy’s. One friend was clever and asked if ours had a spa. I wish! Other thoughts are: new bedding for my bed…new towels to replace a bunch of the old ones…a pretty set of dishes (because you can’t have enough dishes!) If it didn’t cost so darn much, I would SO consider getting this.

My cousin had it at her party and it was a HUGE hit! I know, shocking.

This coming weekend is going to be a bit of a whirlwind with a trip out of town and a visit from somebody wonderful. I’m sure I’ll be sharing highlights next week. Have a great weekend – I know I will!!

Oh, and a Happy Birthday shout out to the Blue Knight!

Sorry to hear about your cousin's cancer. Will pray about it.

LOL about the kids and your 12000 days of work left! Now you gotta figure out approximately how many school days and then work days until retirement they have left :p

Surviving cancer these days seems like the norm when caught early. Still, my sympathies to your cousin; may she kick cancer's butt!!

What a treat; to have a boss who appreciates you. I'm happy for you.

Let me know if you need help spending that gift certificate!! :)

Thanks for playing this week. Have a good weekend...

I hate cancer..I will add your family to my prayers.
I love when school is out..my grand kids go until the 18th and we leave for the beach on the 19th. I love not having to take them home on a Sunday if we are having fun they can stay longer..
Happy FF and I hope when you get the chance you will stop by for a visit.
